Community Development

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality supports non-profits, community groups, incorporated societies, and other groups working to make a positive impact in their community.

We provide support and guidance to help you:

  • Strengthen your organization and build capacity
  • Find and apply for funding opportunities, such as municipal grants and wage subsidies
  • Connect with the right resources and partners
  • Develop projects that make a lasting impact in your community

Our approach is tailored to your needs. We’ll work with you to identify your goals and help you navigate the steps needed to make them happen.

If you’re not sure where to start, we can help you understand the process and connect you with resources to support your group’s development. Reach out today to the Community Development Officer at commdevelop@cbrm.ns.ca

Some community projects can be done informally, but if your group plans to apply for funding, involve multiple partners, or take on long-term projects, you may choose to register as a non-profit organization with the Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stock Companies.

Incorporation provides structure, accountability and access to more opportunities. If you are unsure what type of incorporation is best for your group, it’s recommended that you seek professional legal advice.
