Collection Reminders

Residents living at properties eligible for curbside collection may place up to five regular-sized, clear, transparent garbage bags at the curb each week.
One dark bag may be used in place of one clear bag per week.
Each bag must weigh less than 25 lbs.
Do not place garbage in your green cart. Green carts containing garbage will be tagged and left unemptied.
Remove uncollected garbage from the curb by 9 p.m. on collection day.
Garbage containers and bins should be secure and rodent-proof. Check regularly for holes or cracks, keep lids closed, and store containers away from wood piles.

Green Cart Repair/ Replacement

You should check their green carts regularly for signs of wear or damage. Common types of damage include:

Cracked front lift
Holes
Broken or missing lid
Missing or chewed vents
Cracks in the body
Missing axle or wheels

If you notice any damage, contact us in one of the following ways:

Complete the Green Cart Repair Replacement Request Form and email it to solidwastehotline@cbrm.ns.ca
Print and drop off the form at:

Between 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday

You will then be added to the waiting list. A repair technician will visit your property to assess the cart. If it cannot be repaired, a replacement cart will be issued.

There is no curbside collection on the following holidays:

New Year’s Day (January 1)
Good Friday
Davis Day (June 11) - Glace Bay only
Canada Day (July 1)
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30)
Remembrance Day (November 11)
Christmas Day (December 25)
Boxing Day (December 26)

If any of these holidays fall on your scheduled collection day:

Extra garbage bags and green cart material will be collected on your next regular collection day.
Blue bags will be collected on your next regular blue bag collection week.

We offer a Medical Exemption Program for households that require more than one dark garbage bag per week due to medical reasons.

The extra dark bags are intended for medical-related waste only. Any other household garbage must still be placed in clear bags.

To qualify for a medical exemption, you must:

Continue to recycle and use your green cart properly.
Complete an 8-week curbside assessment by collection staff.

During the assessment period, you are temporarily permitted to use extra dark bags. Collection staff are notified to ensure these medically exempt bags are collected.

If approved, you will receive Medical Exemption Stickers for your address.
