The CBRM works in partnership with Divert Nova Scotia , a not-for-profit organization that helps Nova Scotians Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Compost and Rethink waste.
Through stewardship programs, education, and community partnerships, Divert NS promotes a cleaner, more sustainable province.
Waste Education & Outreach
Whether you’re a teacher, a business owner or part of a community group, we can help you learn practical ways to improve waste management and protect local resources.

Schools and Educators
Our waste educators work with schools to help students learn about waste management, recycling and sustainability. Lesson plans and presentations can be customized for all grade levels to match curriculum outcomes.
Example topics include:
- Ocean plastics and litter
- Waste sorting and reduction
- Vermicomposting
- Waste management and climate
- Food and waste management

Businesses and Institutions
Our waste educators can provide free waste management support to your organization, including:
- Review your current waste and recycling setup
- Provide staff presentations on sorting and waste reduction
- Offer guidance to meet municipal and provincial requirements
Community Outreach
We also participate in local events, fairs and community activities. Our educators can host or contribute to information displays focused on:
- Proper sorting and recycling
- Composting and food waste reduction
- Litter prevention and illegal dumping
